Hello! I am Michael Holuj (he/him), a Registered Psychotherapist at Sunnyside Psychotherapy. I offer in-person sessions in Ottawa and virtual therapy for adults, adolescents (16+), and couples residing across Ontario.

People come to therapy for many different reasons, including struggles with anxiety, depression, trauma, and relationship distress. When these challenges become too difficult to manage on your own, a supportive therapeutic relationship in a safe and non-judgmental environment can guide you to healing and new possibilities.

Together, we work to understand how thoughts, feelings, actions, and physical sensations are interconnected. This understanding can help build resiliency, self-esteem, and new ways of relating to yourself and others that better serve you.

The first 15-minute consultation is free, and allows you to get to know me, discuss your goals for therapy, and ask any questions. If you’re ready to take the first step towards a brighter future, I am here to help.
My Approach
Everyone
has unique needs.
No two clients are the same, and so my approach for each client is different based on your specific needs and goals for therapy. I combine Emotionally-Focused Therapy (EFT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Narrative Therapy, Inner-child work, and Existential Therapy.

My view is informed by attachment theory, which describes how the relationships we have had throughout our lives affect the way we respond to challenges, both internally and externally. I focus on helping you develop a confident and reliable relationship with yourself so you can be a major source of healing and change. I am also trauma-trained to help you work through extreme emotions.

I use these approaches to help you understand your personal internal experience and how it creates meaning and shapes your reality, including how you interpret your emotions. I will also help you reflect on and gain a deeper understanding of the relationships you have with yourself and others. With greater awareness of yourself, you can create new meaning and positive changes in your life.

Meeting regularly enables us to gain a deeper understanding of your personal experience and current issues.
